… for the second time Yumi Morimoto, a lady with a decidedly different way of paying respect to the deceased, ” My main concept is that’s it is important to break away from the traditional Japanese way of honouring our dearly departed as mostly that style is almost always expressed in the same way with no consideration as to who the person actually was in life……i’m trying to promote the individuality of the deceased through artistic expression utilising items and colours from that person’s life in a way which will resonate with those paying respect to them”  Yumi has studied foreign funeral rites and ceremonies extensively and offers a once a month lecture with talks and tuition on how to best “individualise” this so very important and final part of a person’s life…….(12 lectures per year ,see  exhibition until 24th east gallery 2nd floor and also featured in today’s Sankei Shimbun page 19.

October 17th, 2009 No comments

visitors to the East gallery have noticed a lot of changes recently and so to put things  more in perspective here’s Design Festa Director Takeshi Araki…….

…..”hey Takeshi what’s going on over in the East gallery now?

“what’s happening is that we are in the process of strengthening  each gallery’s (east & west)  identity so that we can offer different artists a different atmosphere conducive to their artistic needs……”

and how about our recent support of brands?

” Harajuku has always been considered the heartland of Tokyo Fashion and with this in mind we hope to offer a unique and very reasonable venue for upcoming and established fashion designers….”

thanks Takeshi!

check back later for DF updates! or better still come and help us celebrate our 15th anniversary at Big Sight october 24 & 25!
